| Report: Motorola’s share of UK smartphone sales climbs to 6% from ‘almost nothing’ in 6 months Posted: 31 Mar 2014 03:51 AM PDT  According to data from a Kantar Worldpanel ComTech report for the three months to February 2014, Motorola's budget Moto G device has helped boost the company from "almost nothing" to account for 6 percent of British smartphone sales in just six months. The Moto G was launched in November last year. Dominic Sunnebo, the strategic insight director at Kantar, comments: "It highlights the speed at which a quality budget phone can disrupt a market. The same pattern can be seen in France with Wiko, which has 8.3 percent share, and Xiaomi in China with 18.5 percent." The report notes that almost half of... | Google Campus London says Tech City is still growing, but is it? To properly mark the occasion, Google commissioned some research about Campus and the Tech City area of London, finding that Campus membership had swelled considerably – up from around 10,000 members at this time last year to more than 30,000 today. The picture painted by the results of the survey is an overwhelmingly positive one. | Rocket Internet-backed Zencap is an online finance marketplace for small firms in Germany Posted: 31 Mar 2014 02:03 AM PDT  Well-known incubator Rocket Internet has launched a new venture in Germany — Zencap, a digital credit marketplace for small and mid-sized enterprises to get financing without having to go through banks. Zencap essentially forms a bridge between entrepreneurs and private investors, allowing SMEs to apply for financing directly from Zencap. Entrepreneurs can apply for a loan in the range of €10,000 – €150,000, with a term of six to 60 months, after which the startup's creditworthiness will be checked, and Zencap will propose a non-binding offer based on the firm's risk class and the loan's term. The company has announced a new feature – Line Deco — which lets users of both Android and iOS devices radically change the look of their device and icons. Line Deco essentially replaces default app icons with images of the app's cartoon characters instead, and provides matching wallpaper options too. | WhatsApp is now a medium for storytelling Posted: 31 Mar 2014 12:17 AM PDT Here's an interesting sign of the prevalence of messaging apps — and WhatsApp, in particular — in modern life. The soon-to-be-Facebook-owned app is being used as a medium for online storytelling. And a pretty compelling one at that too.
