Apple Launches iPhone 5s And 5c In China

App-ranking and market intelligence firm App Annie has released its first-ever apps index for China, albeit only for iOS right now. A ranking for Android apps will likely take more time to cobble together, as Google Play doesn't have a presence in China and App Annie would have to tie up with third-party Android app stores instead. It's been at least a dozen years since digital photography has become ubiquitous, and a curious phenomenon has emerged. People are returning to the craft's monochromatic roots. In the face of all the great native color digital cameras on the market, a significant number of photo enthusiasts have discovered a secret: They want to be Ansel Adams when they grow up. Shazam is bringing its hassle-free music recognition service to the Mac. Available as a free download, the app works quietly in the background and picks up the tracks playing around you. That can be on your Mac, or in the nearby vicinity – similar to Shazam on mobile, the service will use your microphone to tag music that you can hear elsewhere. This website is a guide to the best cities for digital nomads and perpetual travelers

Posted: 30 Jul 2014 11:49 PM PDT

global map

If you're lucky enough to be able to work from anywhere for a living (as some 'digital nomads' do), taking a break to travel, or engaged in other activities that let you explore new places, then a new website which ranks cities based on their ease of working might be worth your attention. It's been a rocky journey for popular Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi recently, what with having to face criticisms that it has ripped off Apple's products and privacy issues with the Redmi Note. Now there's another bump in the road for it after Taiwanese authorities found out that Xiaomi hasn't been all that truthful about the number of products it made available during each flash sale in the country, and slapped a NTD600,000 ($20,000) fine on the company. UPDATE: Xiaomi has released a cheeky apology poster on its Weibo official account, saying sorry to Taiwanese authorities for selling a grand total...
