6 ways content marketing has changed the way we do PR Posted: 29 Jun 2014 04:00 AM PDT Shannon Byrne is the Content and PR Manager at Mention where she crafts words, creates strategies, and recruits loyal advocates. Back in 2007-2008, when Twitter was really taking off, the PR industry faced a pivot point. It was no longer effective to cold email as many relevant journalists as possible. Twitter: Brazil-Chile World Cup game is the most tweeted sporting event ever Posted: 28 Jun 2014 03:22 PM PDT The FIFA World Cup has just reached the knockout stages. That increase in drama and tension has set a new record for Twitter, which just revealed that the Brazil vs Chile match became its most-tweeted real-time event ever. The 16.4 million tweets sent during the match — which tournament hosts Brazil narrowly won following a penalty shootout — make it the most tweeted game from the World Cup so far. The company says the moment that Chilean defender Gonzalo Jara missed the crucial penalty triggered 389,000 tweets per minute — that beats Superbowl 48 (382,000 tweets per minute) as the most tweeted sporting event to date.... Facebook manipulated 690,000 users’ News Feeds to run a psychology experiment Posted: 28 Jun 2014 12:58 PM PDT Facebook is more than just a social network, it is also officially an online science laboratory. The company has revealed in a research paper that it carried out a week-long experiment that affected nearly 700,000 users to test the effects of transferring emotion online. The News Feeds belonging to 689,003 users of the English language version were altered to see "whether exposure to emotions led people to change their own posting behaviors," Facebook says. There was one track for those receiving more positive posts, and another for those who were exposed to more emotionally negative content from their friends. Posts themselves were not affected and... Aereo suspends its TV streaming service indefinitely, following Supreme Court ruling Posted: 28 Jun 2014 10:34 AM PDT Aereo has suspended its antenna and internet-based TV service just days after the Supreme Court ruled that it violates US copyright law. Chet Kanojia, Aereo's CEO and founder, pledged to fight on but, in a letter to customers published today, he revealed that the company has "decided to pause our operations temporarily as we consult with the court and map out our next steps". The service went offline at 11:30 ET — Aereo has not said when it will return but it will refund all customers their last paid month. Aereo uses a large number of tiny antennas to pick up local TV feeds and make them... This story continues at The Next Web This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
A survival guide on developer evangelism Posted: 28 Jun 2014 10:00 AM PDT Brian Koles is Head of Business Development at ChallengePost – a platform and community for growing developer ecosystems though online software competitions and in-person hackathons. The tide of software that's currently steamrolling every industry has left companies of sizes with a choice between relying on internal innovation to stay relevant, or allowing third-party developers to weave their content, data and systems into new and exciting applications. Companies wisely choosing the latter have opened their doors by launching 11,400+ public APIs and tasking droves of developer evangelists with champion adoption. So how do you grow a community of developers to advocate for... This story continues at The Next Web This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
How to get an MBA in entrepreneurship Posted: 28 Jun 2014 07:00 AM PDT Jason SurfrApp is the founder of IWearYourShirt.com. His new book, Creativity For Sale, is an in-depth look at how to turn passion into profit. A few years ago a friend told me he was taking an "Entrepreneurship Class" and I remember raising an eyebrow. How do you take a class to learn how to be a certain type of person? The word entrepreneur is defined as: a person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so. How do you teach someone to take risks or to work hard? It's not that I'm... This story continues at The Next Web This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
