BT Sport will be free to UK broadband subscribers for a second football season Posted: 30 Apr 2014 04:34 AM PDT Good news for UK football (soccer) fans – BT Sport will remain a free add-on for both new and continuing BT Broadband customers for at least another season. Though BT covers a number of sports including Moto GP, it's the coverage of the English, Scottish and other European football leagues that will perhaps appeal to most people. The company says that three million homes now subscribe to BT Sport directly from BT, be it through BT TV or the BT Sport mobile app, and around two million more access the service via deals struck with partners including Virgin Media. ➤... Pinterest co-founder Evan Sharp on Guided Search, Promoted Pins, wearables, and more Posted: 30 Apr 2014 04:14 AM PDT Pinterest co-founder Evan Sharp is cool, calm and collected. He talks in a softened tone and all of his responses are carefully considered. Pinterest is exactly the same. Since the company launched its visual bookmarking service in 2010, it's blossomed as an effortless way to capture, organize and share content online. But as the platform has matured, Pinterest has never strayed too far from its original vision. While some startups have tried to shoehorn the latest trends – private messaging being one of the most prominent – Pinterest has stuck to its guns, only iterating on its core features. Last week,... To recap, Apps for Education is used by K-12 schools around the world, and it delivers free online applications including Gmail, Docs, Spreadsheet and more. Around 30 million students, teachers and administrators use the service today, according to Google. Although Google has always disabled ads by default in Apps for Education, and ads were removed completely in Google Search last year for signed-in users, it was still possible to enable ads via the main... Keep up with Bitcoin news and get price alerts with CoinDesk’s new iOS app Posted: 30 Apr 2014 03:34 AM PDT There's good news for Bitcoin news junkies after CoinDesk, a blog that has become one of the leading sources of information about cryptocurrencies, launched an iOS app. The app includes the company's news stories and editorial, and also features its 'Bitcoin Price Index', a currency converter and price alert notifications. The latter feature is pretty nifty, and allows you to set an alert for when Bitcoin reaches a certain valuation – great if you are interested in investing when the market dips, or cashing out when it hits a high. CoinDesk says it is working on an Android app which will arrive in the... This story continues at The Next Web This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Bitcoin dealt huge blow in China as two national banks and Tenpay ban cryptocurrencies Posted: 30 Apr 2014 03:08 AM PDT China looks like it is finally dropping the hammer on Bitcoin after the Bank of China, China Construction Bank and top online payments company Tenpay released statements banning the withdrawal, sale or purchase of the virtual currency by their customers. The three statements — The Bank of China, China Construction Bank, and Tenpay (a PayPal-like service owned by Internet giant Tencent) — are the same. They are identical to statements made by other businesses of late, but on this occasion these three organizations are large, national entities, which makes their moves more impactful than other bans to date. A rough English translation of the statement is below:... This story continues at The Next Web This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

The site claims 3.8 million monthly active users, and it recently expanded its focus on celebrity and musician fan engagement with the acquisition of Deadoralive.com. Details of the Foxconn investment are basic at this point. FIH will invest an initial $2.2 million in Mig33, with a... Secret launches its anonymous sharing app in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand Posted: 29 Apr 2014 10:00 PM PDT Secret is launching its anonymous sharing app today in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, marking its first expansion beyond the United States. The iPhone app's notoriety has skyrocketed in recent months, as members of the technology industry post gossip – the truth of which is by no means guaranteed – about startups in Silicon Valley and beyond. There are no names on Secret, making it difficult for anyone deduce who has posted the most recent rumors, or the chances of them being true. The mobile app, however, does tap into users' address books to disclose whether they know the... Microsoft confirms the Xbox One will go on sale in China in September, stays quiet on pricing Posted: 29 Apr 2014 08:49 PM PDT Microsoft has announced that it will launch the Xbox One in China in September, taking advantage of the lifting of a 13-year block on video games consoles made last year. The US company is linking up with BesTV New Media, a subsidiary of the Shanghai Media Group, to be its partner on the ground. The two formed a joint venture for home entertainment and gaming experiences last year, becoming the first company registered in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone agreement, which is part of the requirement for console-makers selling in China. Microsoft says that the Xbox One will create "mutual opportunities for developers in... This story continues at The Next Web This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
