Brewster Kahle's Internet Archive has been charting the Web's evolution since 1996. Anyone wishing to return to the Yahoo of the mid-1990s or the Google of the early noughties merely has to punch the desired URL into the wonderful Wayback Machine, and boom. There it is, in all its (former) glory. But the Internet Archive is much more than a visual public record of the Web of yore. It provides permanent storage of, and free public access to, collections of digitized materials, including websites, music, moving images, and around three million books. Besides the gargantuan digital repository, however, Kahle was...

Posted: 25 Apr 2014 09:34 AM PDT

Twitter Goes Public On The New York Stock Exchange
Twitter is testing a new feature called "Significant engagement" in its iOS app. The company describes these achievements as "Important or higher than usual engagement with your account or Tweets." Not all iOS users have the new option in their Twitter settings, which explains why it's not mentioned in the changelog on Apple's App Store. Two staff members at TNW do, however, have the new option: The feature is on by default for these two individuals, but as you can see above, it can also be turned off. If you keep it on, however, you will start to get notifications...

HTC admits it needs better marketing, says bloggers will be a big part of the puzzle in Asia

Posted: 25 Apr 2014 07:11 AM PDT

An adjective rather frequently used to describe HTC over the past couple of years has been "struggling." It has been a rough ride for the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer. Despite its former flagship HTC One (M7) winning multiple awards and being professionally recognized by the industry — it was even crowned as the best smartphone at Mobile World Congress — that hasn't translated into sales. In the third quarter of 2013, HTC recorded a net loss of NT$2.97 billion ($98 million) for the first time since it listed on Taiwan's stock exchange in 2002. In the final quarter, it continued posting an operating loss...

Twitter announced today that it is partnering with Yahoo in Japan to make its suite of advertisement products available to small and medium-sized businesses in the country. The deal will see Yahoo Japan integrate Twitter ads into its existing ad platform and become a reseller, so small businesses can access Twitter's Promoted Tweets, Promoted Accounts, and Promoted Trends directly within Yahoo.
